SHINE for girls at MIT is a completely free 9-session math enrichment program for middle school girls, but with a special twist: dance! Our unique kinesthetic learning curriculum combines targeted tutoring with movement games and dance choreography to help students better grasp concepts. Mentors are all MIT students with strong technical backgrounds, passionate about developing confidence in and out of the classroom.
The SHINE curriculum has a track for all girls, regardless of their current math ability, that aligns with the National Common Core standards for grades 6-8 while keeping the content and delivery fresh and dynamic. In addition, girls are welcome to bring their own homework or math questions to SHINE and work on whatever they feel would be most helpful during the one-on-one mentoring session.
The spring session starts Wednesday, February 19th , 2020 and runs every Wednesday from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m until April 22nd , 2020 on MIT’s campus. Snacks will be served!
Applications are available at http://shineforgirls.org/massachusetts/, and are due February 13th, 2020. Questions? Email shineboard@mit.edu or check out the website for more information.
