Summer Youth Employment Program

MIT Human Resources is coordinating an important MIT outreach effort with Cambridge youth programs, Just-A-Start, the Office of Workforce Development, and the Cambridge Housing Authority. Students gain an understanding of what it is like to work in a professional environment, explore career interests and build a unique relationship with MIT.

The relationship between MIT and the Cambridge public high schools is an important one and, as a result, HR is looking to strengthen and expand this relationship by increasing the number of summer employment opportunities. When considering possible opportunities, it is important to identify supportive supervisors who will engage with the students in this educational employment experience, and to consider the work experience and learning opportunity for the student.  Supervisors who have an interest in mentoring and developing a relationship with a Cambridge public high school student are encouraged to learn more about the program and submit a job description.

Summer employment opportunities are open to high school students 16 and older through their summer before their second year in college.

Please consider opportunities in your area for hiring a Cambridge high school student this summer. When considering possible opportunities, it is important to identify supportive supervisors who will engage with the students in this educational employment experience, and to consider the work experience and learning opportunity for the student.

If you are interested or have questions, and for more information including hourly rates, etc, please contact syep@mit.edu. The deadline for supervisors to provide job descriptions is Friday, March 8, 2019.
